Brief Description
Plastic waste’s negative impacts on the marine environment have come into sharper focus as more stakeholders demand accountability from those who generate plastic waste, which include companies that use plastic packaging for their products. In response, the Philippine Alliance for Recycling and Materials Sustainability (PARMS) alongside its Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) members and affiliate organizations have committed to effectively initiate and support efforts to manage plastics and reduce the country’s waste footprint. In January 2020, PARMS members signed a commitment to Zero Waste to Nature, Ambisyon 2030 (ZWTN 2030), wherein each member company must demonstrate that none of the industrial and post-consumer packaging wastes generated from its operations, sale of products, and usage of products end up in nature by 2030. PARMS’ ZWTN 2030 has developed a set of strategies that addresses the issue at a structural or systemic level. A roadmap is also drawn to provide implementation timelines and concrete targets in the short, mid-term, and long-term horizons to ensure ZWTN is achieved by 2030.
