Brief Description

FH complements its nutrition education efforts (e.g., cascade groups) that help improve families' knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAPs) with supplemental feeding for children (ages 3-12) identified as malnourished (underweight, wasted, or stunted). FH's supplemental feeding activity, which ranges between 120 to 180 days, provides children with one hot meal comprising five of seven diverse food groups, including meat, fish, rice, vegetables, and fruits. Meals are based on the meal plan developed by the Rural Health Unit or the Municipal Nutrition Action Officer and may also be based on recommendations of the DOST - Food and Nutrition Research Institute. The feeding is implemented either in communities (barangay public spaces for children under 5) or in multigrade elementary schools (for children ages 6-12). FH's school feeding activities are co-implemented by barangay Local Government Units (LGUs), primarily their Barangay Health Workers or Barangay Nutrition Officers, elementary school teachers, and the children's parents.
