Reading Literacy and Numeracy Remedial Project

The Reading Literacy and Numeracy Remedial Project is FH’s flagship education intervention in the Philippines. Its goal is to contribute to grade-level reading and numeracy proficiency through remedial support, advocacy to quality and safe learning environment, and values formation for the holistic wellbeing and agency of children and young people. The Remedial Project is a community- and school-based tutoring initiative where learners identified as non-readers and non-numerate in partner communities participate in remedial classes led by Learning Support Aides (LSAs) or qualified education professionals hired part-time by FH. It is co-implemented with the Department of Education, local government units, and the families of participating learners. The project also responds to the increasing rate of learning poverty, or the inability to read or understand simple text by the age of 10, in the country, and seeks to contribute to the Department of Education's Basic Education Development Plan 2023.
