Brief Description
The savings groups function serve as grassroots financial institutions that enable unbanked individuals (usually parents/caregivers of FH sponsored children) to maintain savings, build assets, and take out loans to address basic needs (e.g., food, utilities, tuition fees). SGs are organized by community members with support from FH. Members receive basic financial literacy training and values formation anchored on FH's Biblical Worldview. The latter helps build each member's accountability to the group and strengthen values such as trust, transparency, leadership, and caring for others. Groups also have by-laws and officers, making SGs institutionally and financially stable. SGs also contribute to community development and women's empowerment. Through savings, members improve food and economic security. They have a social fund that provides small grants or loans during emergencies. For women, the SGs help them grow their household income, improve roles at home, build organizational and leadership skills, and contribute to others’ wellbeing.
